Decades of Darts on the Sunshine Coast
New players always welcome

Never played darts? Perfect.

You don't need darts, experience or a clue how the scoring works. We'll help with all three.

No darts?We'll lend you some.
No experience? We'll show you the basics.
Scoring look confusing? You're not expected to know it yet.

No pressure. No obligation. Accuracy optional.

What actually happens?

Your first night, in three easy steps

There isn't an audition and nobody expects you to arrive knowing the rules. Just come say hello.

1

Show up

Come by, meet a few players and tell us you're new. That's enough to get started.

2

Borrow darts & get the basics

We'll find you a set of loaner darts and give you a quick, friendly introduction to throwing and scoring.

3

Practise, then watch

Throw a few practice darts before 7:00, ask questions, then stick around to watch league play and see how Wednesday night works.

Two easy ways to try it

Pick the night that feels easiest

Either option is a perfectly good first step. You do not need to arrive with a team or your own equipment.

League night

Wednesday evenings

Come by before 7:00 PM and we'll show you the basics, let you throw some practice darts and introduce you around. League play starts at 7:00, when you can grab a seat with us, watch the matches and learn from our vast dart experience — some of it even useful.

Season starts September 23 • Gibsons Legion, Sechelt Legion & Bunkers Clubhouse • exact match assignments on the final schedule.
Relaxed & beginner-friendly

Monday Fun Darts

A casual way to meet players, learn the game and get comfortable before deciding whether league play is for you.

Gibsons Legion • starts 7:00 PM • arrive before 7:00 to register; 6:00–6:30 PM is a good target.
Things people wonder about

Questions you're allowed to ask

Most new players have the same worries. None of them are a problem.

What should I bring?

Mostly yourself. If you own darts, bring them. If you don't, we'll lend you a set so you can try before buying anything.

Do I need a team already?

No. Contact us and we'll help you figure out the best fit once registration and team numbers are known.

Do I have to commit on my first night?

No. Come practise before league night, watch a Wednesday match or try Monday Fun Darts. There is no obligation to sign up just because you came by.

Is there something for younger players?

A Youth Darts drop-in is being planned. Youth Darts details will be posted as they are confirmed.

What if I can't keep score?

That's normal. We'll show you how it works and help while you learn. Nobody expects a first-timer to know the dartboard math.

A quick translation

What Did They Just Say?

Darts comes with its own vocabulary. Here is enough of it to follow your first night — nobody will quiz you on the rest.

OcheThe throwing line. Your feet stay behind it while you throw.
VisitOne turn at the board, normally up to three darts.
LegOne complete game, usually from 501 down to exactly zero.
DoubleThe thin outside ring, worth twice the number. Double 20 is 40.
TrebleThe thin inner ring, worth three times the number. Treble 20 scores 60.
Checkout / FinishTaking your remaining score to exactly zero to win the leg, normally on a double.
BustA visit that doesn't count because you score more than you have left, leave 1, or reach zero without finishing on the required double. Your score goes back to what it was before the visit.
TopsDouble 20 — what you hear when 40 is left.
Maximum / 180The highest three-dart score: three treble 20s.
Chalker / ScorerThe person recording the score and the remaining total. Be kind to them.
Marker DartA dart sitting close to the target that gives the next one something to aim beside.
Bogey NumberA score under 170 that can't be finished in one three-dart visit — 169 being the classic.
